The Opportunity
An industry-leading specialist contractor is looking to appoint a Buyer to support one of the UK's largest and most prestigious infrastructure projects.
Working within a collaborative alliance environment, you'll play a key role in procuring the materials, plant, equipment and specialist services required to deliver complex geotechnical and heavy civil engineering works.

The Role
As Buyer, you'll manage the procurement process from initial sourcing through to supplier management, ensuring materials and services are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards.
You'll work closely with commercial, engineering, project and operational teams to ensure the supply chain supports successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement
- Manage the full procurement lifecycle from enquiry to order placement
- Source materials, plant, equipment and subcontract services
- Prepare and issue RFQs, RFIs and tender documentation
- Evaluate supplier quotations and negotiate best-value agreements
- Raise and manage purchase orders in line with company procedures
Supplier Management
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships
- Monitor supplier performance, quality and delivery
- Identify new suppliers and procurement opportunities
- Support supplier negotiations and framework agreements
- Resolve supply chain issues to minimise project disruption
Commercial Support
- Analyse quotations and procurement data
- Ensure best value while maintaining quality and programme requirements
- Monitor market trends, pricing and material availability
- Support cost-saving initiatives and value engineering opportunities
- Maintain accurate procurement records and reporting
Project Support
- Work closely with engineering, commercial and site teams
- Ensure materials and services are available to meet programme deadlines
- Support fast-paced project delivery across multiple work packages
- Ensure compliance with procurement governance and project procedures
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve procurement processes
- Support sustainability and responsible sourcing initiatives
- Promote collaborative working across project teams and suppliers
- Contribute to supply chain performance improvements
About You
We're looking for someone with:
- Experience managing the end-to-end procurement process
- Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills
- Excellent organisational and planning abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Good analytical skills with confidence reviewing quotations and cost data
- Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office
Desirable
- Experience within construction, civil engineering or infrastructure projects
- Knowledge of engineering, plant or construction materials procurement
- Experience using SAP, Jaggaer or similar procurement systems
- CIPS qualification or working towards accreditation
- Experience supporting major infrastructure or heavy civil engineering projects
