Scope of the Role
Reporting to the BU Management and Operations Director, the role holder will provide senior leadership across the full lifecycle of large-scale construction projects, typically valued between €100 million and €500 million. Acting with a high degree of autonomy, this individual will have full accountability for the successful delivery of complex, fully integrated builds.
The role encompasses the strategic direction, governance, and coordination of all project activities, ensuring alignment with commercial objectives, programme commitments, quality standards, and EHS requirements. The Project Director will establish, lead, and develop a high-performing project leadership team, while maintaining strong and collaborative relationships with client stakeholders.
As a key member of the core project management team, the role holder will help define the project vision, set performance targets, implement robust delivery processes, and foster a culture of excellence, safety, and continuous improvement across all phases of execution.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Governance
- Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the project team, ensuring clarity of roles, responsibilities, and expectations.
- Establish and maintain effective project governance structures, reporting mechanisms, and decision-making processes.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the senior point of contact for the client, fostering strong, transparent, and collaborative relationships.
- Lead key client engagements, driving a proactive QEHS agenda and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Communicate performance outcomes clearly, including successes, risks, and areas requiring change or alignment.
Programme, Cost & Commercial Oversight
- Oversee project planning, scheduling, procurement, and engineering development to meet programme milestones.
- Ensure accurate material take-offs, cost control, and alignment with subcontractor pricing and commercial strategies.
- Use forward planning and look-ahead schedules to proactively manage risk and drive delivery certainty.
Quality, EHS & Compliance
- Champion a strong EHS culture across the project, ensuring full compliance with company, client, and statutory requirements.
- Oversee the implementation of project audit plans, review findings, and ensure timely closure of all actions.
- Ensure quality management systems, procedures, and controls are fully implemented and continuously improved.
Team Development & Performance
- Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing project team, empowering Construction Managers and functional leads to deliver effectively.
- Set clear performance expectations and monitor delivery against agreed KPIs.
- Promote training and capability development for both direct staff and subcontractors, setting consistent standards across the project.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure accurate, timely project reporting, including weekly progress updates and performance reviews.
- Analyse trends, risks, and opportunities, implementing corrective actions as required.
- Drive a culture of learning and continuous improvement across all project functions.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree-qualified in Engineering or a recognised trade qualification.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience delivering large-scale construction projects as a General Contractor.
- Strong technical understanding of Civil, Structural, and Architectural packages.
- Proven ability to lead and manage large multidisciplinary teams through effective delegation, communication, and performance management.
- Highly developed interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Strong commercial awareness and programme management capability.
